Beginning to Play Minecraft
This post is good for beginning Minecrafters who don't really know how to play Minecraft yet. It will help you get all the way to the level where you can start playing.
Introduction
Hey, Minecraft Beginners! You’ve probably seen Minecraft when you went to a shop like Best Buy or Target. You’ve probably really wanted to play, right?
If this is the first time you’re playing Minecraft, then this is a good book to learn about Minecraft for beginners. Along the book, we’ll show you the stuff to know to be able to play other stuff, too!
About Minecraft
Minecraft is a game full of things to do as well as exploring, surviving, and creating. It’s full of biomes, structures, and a lot more to see! It’s also a good way to show your creativity & imagination.
Everything in Minecraft starts with a simple cube block. The Minecraft world can be as big as the Planet Earth, but built from little cube building blocks, one stacked on top of another. These make up the ground, the trees and the rivers. It doesn’t stop there. You can go as low as deep and dark caverns that reach the bedrock, and as high as mountains that go over the clouds. Minecraft truly is a game of wonders. Start it up, and we promise you’ll be amazed by how beautiful the landscape is. Ah! You’ll also meet some creatures along the way. Some friendly and cute, others hostile and scary.
Getting Stuff for your Inventory
As the “mine” part of the name may suggest, you will collect a lot of things along the way as you interact with the environment. Sure, you can just walk around and look at the pretty sights, but you will also want to pick up some stuff as you go. You can interact with the environment by pressing your ‘use’ button. Empty handed, doing that just looks like you’re hitting the air, but get right next to a block and keep doing that, and you’ll see that you are actually tearing that down. If you do that long enough you will get a block added to your inventory. Part of your inventory shows right below the screen. That’s called the hotbar. The type of block you get depends on what block you were hitting before it disappeared. Hit a tree long enough and you will get some wood.
To create easily, you can use Minecraft’s Creative Mode. Then you don’t need to collect anything, your inventory will be filled with every type of block Minecraft has to offer. You can then use blocks to build other things, like a house, a statue, and even another mountain (but that takes a lot of blocks). Another thing that’s really cool about Minecraft is that not only can you use the blocks that you gather to build new things, but you can also combine different blocks or materials to create more complex blocks, materials or components to build even more amazing things!
Starting the Game
When you enter Minecraft from your PlayStation menu, you’ll first arrive at the game menu. To start, select the “Play” button. Then, select a world you’ve created or select “Create New World”.
Creating a new world
To create a new world, select the “Create New World” button. In the settings, type a name for your world. If you don’t type a name for your world, the game will automatically name it “My World”. After writing the name, select a game mode for your world (Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Spectator options for the mode). Read the other mode books for information about the modes. After selecting a mode, select a difficulty for your world (Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard options for the difficulty). Now for the seed, press the button with an arrow pointing to the right. It will show you some templates. It is all biomes/structures. But they won’t offer you all the biomes/structures. And you won’t always spawn right at the biome/structure you selected. As you’ve seen, some of the templates say “Ahead”. That means it’s near your spawn location. The ‘Deep Dark’ template also causes you to spawn in a “ahead” spawn location, even though it doesn't have the "Ahead" in it's name.
Now you can keep following the prompts and configuring your world.
Selecting a world that was already made
Once you have your world created, a button will appear in the world list. That’s the world you just created. If you keep creating new worlds, that will keep happening. If you want to enter a world that you created (a world that is in the world list), put the selector on the button with the name of your world (the selector is the green highlight that changes the background color), then select it.
Walking/Sprinting
To walk, look at the direction you want to go using the right stick, then use the left stick to walk. Another way is to just use the left stick in your controller and point it to the direction you want to go. You just won’t be able to see where you’re going if you just use the left stick.
To sprint, do the same as walking but holding the left stick (PlayStation’s left stick is also a button) and you’ll notice you’re going a bit faster. You can also use a Swiftness potion (Once you have a brewing stand, you can make the potion by combining Blaze Powder with 1 Water Bottle, 1 Sugar, and 1 Nether Wart. Find out more with our 'Potions - Not published yet' unofficial guide)
Jumping
To jump, press the × button.
To jump higher, drink a Leaping potion before jumping. To make a Potion of Leaping (3:00 - Jump Boost), you will need 1 water bottle, 1 nether wart, and 1 rabbit's foot. Find out more about potions with our 'Potions - Not published yet' unofficial guide.
Emotes
The emotes are movements that your character will do. To do it, press the “Options” button¹ or the left button then the “Options” button². Press the Square button in your controller if you did choice 1. If you did choice 1, go to the bar on the left with buttons and find the “Emotes” button. Find an emote to download. Pay a token if required. Now test your emote. Press the left button. Hold the left stick on the direction showing the emote you just downloaded. Still holding, press the × button. Now you may release your hand from the left stick.
Every time you want to do an emote, just press the left button, and do all the other steps we offered you.
Teleporting
Teleporting is the fastest way to get somewhere without having to walk.
Command Teleporting
To teleport in your current dimension (the Overworld) with a command, you need to go to the 'Chat' menu by pressing the right button. Then, select the "blank space" button in the menu. Start by typing "/teleport" or "/tp". Now type your destination. It must be the coordinate of your destination. For example: "0 64 0". That is a coordinate with the zeros except on the height number. Type the number of the position you want to teleport. Another type of command teleporting is when you want to teleport to a player. First, type who you want to be teleported. For example, you typed "@s @r". That means you want to teleport to where a random player is at.
Portal Teleporting
There's another type of teleporting. You can use portals. Portals will teleport you to dimensions in the console edition, but in the computer edition, you can also create your own portals to your own locations. To make a Nether portal, you need at least 10 blocks of obsidian and a flint and steel to activate the portal. Now to make an Ender portal (which is harder), you need 12 end portal frames and 12 eyes of Ender. Always stay in the middle of the structure, otherwise it just won't activate.
Hitting
Attacking
To attack an entity, face a mob or player, and, if close enough, press the R2 button to attack the entity with a sword, weapon, trident, etc. if playing in Survival mode..
Breaking
To break a block or item, face one and if the block/item is close enough, then press the R2 button to break the block with a pickaxe if playing in Survival mode.
Placing Blocks/Items
To place a block/item, face the location you want to place the block/item, and, if the block/item to go by your block/item is highlighted white or outlined black, press the L2 button to place it.
Crafting
To craft, go to your inventory for a 2x2 crafting grid (pressing the triangle button), or to a crafting table's inventory for a 3x3 crafting grid (facing a crafting table and pressing the L2 button).
